Supervisor – Full Time

We’re looking for a hands-on, people-focused Café Supervisor to join our team. You’ll support the day-to-day running of the café, lead and develop the team on shift, and make sure every guest has a warm, memorable experience with us.

Based on your availability and skill level, you may be assigned to work at Café Tomi or at our new Melbourne CBD shop, with interviews conducted at Café Tomi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the front-of-house team during service, ensuring smooth daily operations
  • Deliver warm, attentive customer service and handle feedback or complaints professionally
  • Maintain high standards of coffee, beverage and food presentation (including basic barista duties)
  • Assist with staff training, onboarding and coaching on service standards and café procedures
  • Help with rostering, shift planning and fair task allocation (as directed by management/HR)
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures, cash handling and daily reconciliation
  • Ensure the venue is clean, organise and compliant with food safety and OH&S standards
  • Communicate clearly with the Director/General Manager about daily issues, stock and staffing needs
  • Ordering, stock management to ensure smooth store operation
  • Assist event planning, promotion and ensure the smooth running of the event
  • Uphold Café Tomi’s brand values, culture and a positive team environment

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a supervisor / senior barista role in a café or hospitality venue
  • Strong customer service skills and confidence dealing with busy service and problem-solving on the spot
  • Solid barista skills (or willingness to train up quickly to our standard)
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and support a small team
  • Strong communication skills and a calm, professional manner
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail (cash, checklists, stock, cleaning, etc.)
  • Reliability and flexibility to work early mornings, weekends and peak periods as per roster
  • Food Safety or RSA certification (or willingness to obtain if required)
  • Interest in specialty coffee, creative beverages and café culture
  • Full working rights in Australia
Chef / Cook – Full Time

We are looking for passionate and skilled Chefs of all levels (Chef de Partie, Demi Chef, Commis Chef) to join our Sake Bar team.

Based on your availability and skill level, you will be assigned to work at our new Melbourne CBD shop, with interviews conducted at Café Tomi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and dishes according to recipes and standards
  • Assist with daily prep (cutting, grilling, frying, assembling dishes)
  • Maintain high kitchen hygiene and food safety
  • Report stock shortages or equipment issues
  • Assist with plating and presentation

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a chef role in a hospitality venue
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen (all levels welcome)
  • Solid barista skills (or willingness to train up quickly to our standard)
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Food Safety and RSA certification (or willingness to obtain if required)
  • Full working rights in Australia
Baker – Full Time/Part Time

You’ll be working at our new shop in the Melbourne CBD, while interviews and training will be conducted at Café Tomi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily baking of breads, pastries, cookies, and café treats.
  • Follow and maintain consistency in Café Tomi recipes.
  • Prepare doughs, batters, and fillings according to schedule.
  • Assist in shaping, proofing, baking, and finishing products.
  • Monitor oven timing and temperature for optimal quality.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards.

Requirements:

  • 1–2 years of experience in a professional baking environment.
  • Working knowledge of baking equipment and techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Availability for early shifts (starting from 4:00–5:00 AM), weekends preferred.
  • Valid Food Handling Certificate (or willing to obtain).
Baking Assistant – Part Time/Casual

You’ll be working at our new shop in the Melbourne CBD, while interviews and training will be conducted at Café Tomi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparation of ingredients (measuring, weighing, mixing).
  • Portion doughs and batters as directed by bakers.
  • Help with shaping, decorating, and packaging baked goods.
  • Clean and sanitize workstations, tools, and equipment.
  • Organize pantry and cold storage, and check inventory levels.
  • Learn and grow under the guidance of senior bakers.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 years of experience in a professional baking environment.
  • Enthusiastic, fast learner with strong work ethic.
  • Comfortable working early mornings and weekends.
  • Ability to handle repetitive tasks while maintaining quality.
  • Physically fit and capable of standing for long periods and lifting up to 15kg.
  • A genuine love for baking and pastries!
Barista – Part Time

Based on your availability and skill level, you may be assigned to work at Café Tomi or at our new Melbourne CBD shop, with interviews conducted at Café Tomi.

Requirement

  • Minimum 2 year of relevant barista experience in a busy café setting
  • Strong ability to work efficiently under pressure with a high workflow
  • Excellent customer service skills and a friendly, approachable attitude
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
  • Knowledge of espresso-based drinks, coffee equipment, and cafe operations
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain a clean and organized workspace
  • Willing to learn new knowledge, experience with square system preferred.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and peak hours. Full time availability preferred.

Working Hours: 20 – 35

All-rounder – Part time/Casual

Based on your availability and skill level, you may be assigned to work at Café Tomi or at our new Melbourne CBD shop, with interviews conducted at Café Tomi.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Greet customers and provide prompt, friendly service.
  • Take dine-in and takeaway orders using POS systems.
  • Run food and beverages to tables, clear and reset tables.
  • Support baristas with drink preparation during busy times.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the front of house, including floors, counters, and bathrooms.
  • Assist with opening and closing duties.
  • Communicate effectively with kitchen and barista teams to ensure smooth service.
  • Occasionally assist with packaging and restocking baked goods or retail items.

Requirements:

  • Previous hospitality or customer service experience preferred.
  • A friendly, positive attitude and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure during peak hours.
  • Punctual, reliable, and proactive team player.
  • Comfortable working weekends and early morning shifts.
  • Barista experience is a plus, but not required—training can be provided.
  • Must have (or be willing to obtain) a valid Food Safety Certificate or RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol) if required for events.
